Hi Guys, It's Jen here today to welcome in the beautiful month of July! Can you believe that it's already July?! Summer is definitely here in full swing which usually means cookouts, swimming, and awesome American summer holidays such as labor day and of course the 4th of July.
Today I wanted to celebrate July, and our monthly challenge, so for my project I created a very Patriotic (red, white, and blue) card. To make this card I started with a piece of 3 1/2" x 5.5" white cardstock which I inked and stamped and then later applied to an A2 kraft base.
The first thing I did to the white paper was to heat embossed the "stars" using my Ranger Embossing Pen and a clear embossing powder.. To really pull the stars through and make it resemble the flag, I took a blue ink and rubbed it across the top corner of the card.
Once the blue corner was inked I then inked a brown/rustic ink along the rest of the card and then added those red stripes using just the corner of the ink pad. To continue with the distressed feel of the card I took a black ink and inked around all of the edges. Looking back I would have gone slightly lighter or easier with the brown, but hey I still love the way it came out. I was also going to distress the edges, but I could not find my distressing tool... :(
This card uses none other than the beautiful American Eagle stamp from Just For Fun which I stamped directly onto the card front using that same black ink. I then topped the kraft base with the white inked layer and added some white gel dots and ink scribbles to finish up the card and tie the two pieces together.
Thanks so much for coming over and checking out my project. Don't forget to join us for our monthly challenge "Red, White, & Blue."
